About me

The second I gave I gave birth to my son, I became aware of the environment around him and us. He developed eczema within a couple of weeks and I started to look at everything that could be causing it. I started by making our own washing powder and moisturiser to ensure it was as natural as possible and did not contain any toxic, skin irritating ingredients.  I then quickly started looking at everything we had in the house, from unpleasant chemical based bathroom cleaning sprays to horrendous weed killer that was getting into wild animal food chains. I was so shocked and could not believe that is was legal to sell some of this stuff!

I decided to take control and create a healthy environment for us all to live in. I thought back to my younger days of training as an aromatherapist and decided I needed to blow the dust off of my books and go back to basics…and nature! And the joyous thing I soon discovered, was that I did not need any of the shop bought products. Just some basic, more natural ingredients would work better and were completely safe. And by buying in bulk, it was also hell of a lot cheaper. Happy days!

After a few years I decided I wanted to empower other people to make their own natural, non-toxic home and body products. So, I decided to start this blog. However, I did not want to just focus on my recipes. I wanted to incorporate other elements of my life that I feel empowered by and that bring me joy. This includes home renovation (OK I admit I do not thoroughly enjoy this, but the results have always made it worth the effort), décor and gardening. We have renovated a couple of houses now and we have learnt how to do this on a tight budget. I now thoroughly enjoy thrifting and finding second-hand bargains. I have also developed an obsession for old furniture with a story to tell, which unlike most new furniture, is well made and built to last. Some items just need a little bit of TLC to bring them back to their former glory and I get a real buzz out of achieving this. It is recycling at its best!

Over the years I have learnt that you don’t have to spend lots of money to have a cosy and healthy home. Just focus on handmade, natural home and body products and second-hand quality bargains.
